Join us for worship on Sundays at 10:00 a.m.!
Worship at First English follows an ancient Christian pattern called the liturgy. Every week, we praise God in song, hear the Scriptures and a sermon, remember the needs of our world in prayer, and celebrate Holy Communion. The order of the service is printed each week in an easy-to-follow bulletin format.
First English also treasures the church’s musical heritage. Most of our hymns come from the hymnal Evangelical Lutheran Worship and are led by organ or piano. The choir sings at the 10:00 service through the school year. Musicians from the congregation and the community share their gifts on festival Sundays and especially during the summer months.
Special worship services are held during Advent, Lent, and Holy Week. Other opportunities for corporate prayer are planned as need arises.
About Holy Communion:
Lutheran Christians believe that Christ is true present in and with the bread and wine. The bread remains bread and the wine remains wine, but Christ is there, too. How does this happen? We do not know–but we trust that Christ is truly present to love us, forgive us, and strengthen our faith.
All baptized Christians, whatever your church background or however long it has been since you have been in church, are invited to participate in Holy Communion. For communion, we use bread or wafers and wine. Gluten-free wafers are available for those who have allergies to wheat. Although both bread and wine are available to all who wish to commune, people sometimes find themselves wishing or needing to take only the bread or only the wine. That is perfectly acceptable: Christ is fully and truly present in both elements.
